Updated: Peter Shaffer memorial tribute
Daniel was one of the stars who attended the Peter Shaffer memorial tribute at the National Theatre in London yesterday. The playwright passed away in June last year.

Update: 5th April 2017. A photo by Cameron Slater is added below.

Here another photo from the Equus performance (no not Daniel as Alan this time). Via the London Evening Standard: Daniel Radcliffe said his appearance in the hit revival of Shaffer’s play Equus in the West End and on Broadway made him “the actor and the man I am today”.

He also said he first met the writer when he was 16, adding:
“At the time I had had no stage experience, no technical training whatsoever and outside of Potter there was very little on my CV that would suggest I could cope with anything as demanding and intense as his play and his character. But fortunately Peter managed to look beyond that and he had much, much more faith in me than I had in myself”.

Playwright Peter Shaffer has died aged 90

Playwright Peter Shaffer has died aged 90
Playwright Peter Shaffer who wrote Equus has died Monday at the age of 90. He had won a Tony Award for Equus before it was revived with Daniel in the West End in 2007.

Daniel paid tribute with the following statement via his official Google+ page:
"Peter Shaffer was and remains one of the U.K's greatest playwrights. He created challenging, moving and fantastically theatrical work and was also an incredibly kind, generous and funny man. In my career Equus remains one of the most important and valuable things I've ever done in terms of how much I learnt from it. I will forever be grateful to him for trusting me to play the character of Alan Strang at a time when I had extremely limited experience on stage. I feel very privileged to have worked with him and will miss him". -Dan

Richard Griffiths has died aged 65
I just heard the news that Daniel's co-star Richard Griffiths(Harry Potter: Uncle Vernon Dursley & Equus) has died yesterday at the age of 65 of complications following heart surgery. I saw him in Equus, London back in 2007. Britain has lost a brilliant actor, R.I.P. Richard.

Daniel was among the first to pay tribute. Here's what he said.
"Richard was by my side during two of the most important moments of my career.

Description:
An explosive play that took critics and audiences by storm, Equus is Peter Shaffer's exploration of the way modern society has destroyed our ability to feel passion. Alan Strang is a disturbed youth whose dangerous obsession with horses leads him to commit an unspeakable act of violence. As psychiatrist Martin Dysart struggles to understand the motivation for Alan's brutality, he is increasingly drawn into Alan's web and eventually forced to question his own sanity. Equus is a timeless classic and a cornerstone of contemporary drama that delves into the darkest recesses of human existence.

Dan on cover new book Portraits from Uli Weber
According to Photo Pro magazine Daniel will be featuring on the cover of the new book from photographer Uli Weber (he did a shoot with Dan back in 2007, Equus, one of these photos will be on the cover) the book features portraits from his work through the years.
We catch up with the great celebrity photographer to find out more about his fantastic new book. Daniel Radcliffe has made the cover of the book and Weber confesses that it was never a contest to see which image would make it into that prime position. “It was a straightforward choice,” he says matter-of-factly. “It was a great shot and it was the one that worked the best. We set it up in a large studio in Park Royal in west London and just hung up two gigantic sheets of black velvet behind him, with matting down on the floor for the times when the horse might forget itself!”.

The book 'Portraits by Uli Weber' was released in October 2010

Interview: EQUUS Nationale Toneel (NL)
14 november 2009, Muzeval: Emmen

Lorenzo Pisoni about Dan and Equus

Lorenzo Pisoni about Dan and Equus
Lorenzo Pisoni got interviewed quite recently about Daniel and Equus, but also talked about Humor Abuse, his new autobiographical solo show. Here some quotes.

TM: Is this show more physically demanding than playing Nugget in EquusLP: Because it's more free-form -- and I've been doing circus bits since I was two -- it doesn't seem as taxing on the body to me as Equus, which was the most physical thing I've ever done. Because the choreography was the way it was on the raked stage, the toll on all of our bodies was more traumatic. Those horse heads were nine pounds each, and we were pitched forward in high heels -- except there was no heel. And then to have to carry Dan, even though he's not the heaviest guy in the world, was intense to do for five months.

TM: Dan put you in the news during the show's run when he said that if he were gay or female, he'd marry you. Do you feel the same way about him?LP: Ha! If he were wearing platform shoes -- then yes, I would totally love and marry him. But he'd have to wear platform shoes. All the time.
