Richard Griffiths has died aged 65

Richard Griffiths has died aged 65
I just heard the news that Daniel's co-star Richard Griffiths (Harry Potter: Uncle Vernon Dursley & Equus) has died yesterday at the age of 65 of complications following heart surgery. I saw him in Equus, London back in 2007. Britain has lost a brilliant actor, R.I.P. Richard.

Daniel was among the first to pay tribute. Here's what he said.
"Richard was by my side during two of the most important moments of my career.

In August 2000, before official production had even begun on Potter, we filmed a shot outside the Dursleys', which was my first ever shot as Harry. I was nervous and he made me feel at ease.

Seven years later, we embarked on Equus together. It was my first time doing a play but, terrified as I was, his encouragement, tutelage and humour made it a joy.

In fact, any room he walked into was made twice as funny and twice as clever just by his presence. I am proud to say I knew him."

Updated: Daniel Radcliffe prepares for The Cripple of Inishmaan

Updated: Daniel Radcliffe prepares for The Cripple of Inishmaan
Daniel has been talking with the Daily Mail about preparing for his upcoming West End play this summer: Martin McDonagh’s black comedy The Cripple of Inishmaan.

‘I’ve been working with a consultant trainer who helps people who have multiple sclerosis, because Billy — the boy I play — is crippled in his legs and his back has gone. I wanted to find a way of conveying his illness in a manner I’d be able to perform every night,’ Daniel told me.

‘If you do these things the wrong way, you can end up with serious back or walking problems.‘It’s not actually specified what’s wrong with Billy. But reading through the play, it seemed that multiple sclerosis might be closest to what he has.’
Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan opens for a 12-week run at The Noel Coward Theatre in London from 3 June.

Update: Daniel posted the following comment on Google+ about this article:
Loved chatting to Baz from the Daily Mail about my role in Martin McDonagh's brilliant comedy CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN - Martin is a comic genius.  I should say that though the script is unspecfific about the exact nature of Billy's ailment the physicality I am working on is based on a specific kind of cerebral palsy and not MS (multiple sclerosis). I am excited to start rehearsals at the end of April with Michael and his team on this comic masterpiece. -Dan

Google+: Daniel about being pale and filming The Tailor of Panama

Google+: Daniel about being pale and filming The Tailor of Panama
Daniel posted a new unseen photo online at his Google+ page from him on the set of The Tailor of Panama from back in 2001. And then there is also a post he made about his latest obsession TED.

In case you haven't noticed I am very pale. 'Deathly pale' some might/do say. It's not a look I've deliberately cultivated but it's certainly not going to change soon. This photo is testament to the fact this has always been the case. On Tailor of Panama I was required to look like I had lived in Central America my whole life. This was no mean feat for our Make Up department. They tried to use fake tan on me and, for whatever reason, it didn't take. My pale skin was having none of it. So in the end they decided they would have to cover me, from head to toe, with tan make up each morning. This picture is the result. The tissues are in place to stop the make up getting on the costume - it wasn't a fashion choice. -Dan

Daniel Radcliffe attends Get Connected's annual charity auction & dinner

Daniel Radcliffe attends Get Connected's annual charity auction & dinner
Daniel attended (& co-hosted like last year) Get Connected's annual charity auction yesterday, 5th March, held at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. Spelbound provided the entertainment and sports legends Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell were hosting the live auction. Photos from the arrivals around 7 pm via justjared.com. You can view more by Paul Baird (smilezoomclick.co.uk) or Flickr.

From Get Connected's website:
The evening raised a total of £182,500.   All proceeds will go directly towards providing the Get Connected helpline, ensuring that young people know that Get Connected is there for them, and expanding the team of Helpline Volunteers who provide young people with the help that they need, 365 days a year.
Daniel, 23, has been a long-standing supporter of Get Connected, which helps under-25s with absolutely any problem.

“It’s a great privilege to support Get Connected.  Their important helpline service makes sure that young people in the UK never have to face their problems alone.   Tonight I’ve been honored to meet some of their amazing Helpline Volunteers, who are dedicated to giving support for young people when things get tough”
Daniel, who is the charity’s ‘Best Friend’ also took time to meet Britain’s Got Talent winners Spelbound, who provided a spectacular display during the evening.  These talented gymnasts are all aged between 12 and 22, and represent the ages of many of the 1,500 young people who contact Get Connected every week.

“We are overwhelmed by the fantastic support Get Connected received at our fundraising auction,” commented Fiona Clark, Chief Executive of Get Connected. “I’m so grateful to Daniel for his support as well as Carphone Warehouse and all the sponsors who so generously donated and bought our auction lots. Last year, 70,000 young people contacted Get Connected; the funds raised at the auction will enable us to connect even more young people to the help they need in 2013.”

Daniel Radcliffe in final talks to play Igor in Frankenstein
It looks like Daniel has a new project lined up. According to The Hollywood Reporter (official article is published by Variety, and shared by Daniel's Google+,  but Variety has now deleted it) is Daniel in final negotiations to play the hunchback in 20th Century Fox's Frankenstein an upcoming sci-fi spin on the classic tale that's being directed by Paul McGuigan from a script by Chronicle writer Max Landis.

I also already posted before that Daniel said he is definitely interested to play the role. The plot is said to revolve around themes of 'friendship and redemption'.  Production is slated for a late-summer start in the UK.
