Today, Universal Orlando has announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has it's grand opening on 18th June.

Press release:

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 25, 2010) – One of the most widely anticipated theme park entertainment experiences ever created – The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort – is set for a public grand opening on June 18.

Today, Universal Orlando Resort also revealed details about what is expected to be one the most exciting theme park experiences ever created:  Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.  It will be one of three themed attractions within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, including Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is the heart of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This all new adventure combines a powerful storyline with spectacular new technology so effectively that guests will be completely immersed in the experience.

And as they live their adventure, guests will feel things no one has ever felt inside a theme park attraction, move in ways no one has ever moved, experience film like no one else ever has, explore vast sets punctuated by amazing special effects – and have an adventure only possible in Harry Potter’s world.

The new attraction lies deep within Hogwarts castle, a majestic structure that towers over The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - the only place in the world where the wonder, excitement and adventure of the Harry Potter books and films comes to life.

The Adventure
Imagine…

…meeting Harry, Ron and Hermione as if they were in person
…soaring over Hogwarts castle with Harry
…being swept into a Quidditch match
…feeling the chilling effect of a Dementor
…exploring your favorite places inside Hogwarts castle
…living adventures you’ve only been able to imagine – until now.

The Story
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey draws you into the excitement and chaos of Harry's life.  As you venture through Hogwarts castle, you meet Harry, Ron and Hermione who convince you to skip a planned lecture and follow them. Upon taking their advice, you travel by Floo powder, and begin the adventure as you soar over Hogwarts, narrowly escape a dragon attack, have a close encounter with the Whomping Willow, get pulled into a Quidditch match and more.

“Guests will experience firsthand a completely new adventure featuring the iconic characters, amazing creatures and recognizable locations they’ve only read in the books or seen in the films,” said Thierry Coup, creative director for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The Location
The Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey experience starts as soon as you walk through the gates of Hogwarts.  Within the towering Hogwarts castle, you explore a truly magical place. You journey through iconic locations taken from the films and take in the extraordinary detail of each scene.  They include:

  • Dumbledore’s office: Here, you meet the Headmaster as he welcomes you to Hogwarts
  • Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom:  Where you first meet Harry, Ron and Hermione
  • Gryffindor common room: You meet three additional characters who prepare you for your journey
  • Room of Requirement: Here, with hundreds of floating candles above, you take your seat on an enchanted bench and begin the Forbidden Journey
  • Other locations: In addition, guests will pass through the Dungeon passageway and hallways of Hogwarts where they will have the chance to see hundreds of wizard portraits from the films, including several magical talking portraits created exclusively for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, including the four founders of Hogwarts. Guests will even get a glimpse of the Sorting Hat.

Updated: Deathly Hallows set caught fire

Updated: Deathly Hallows set caught fire
It is being reported that whilst filming a battle sequence on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows yesterday, an outdoors lot was caught on fire. Local firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the fire. Watch commander Tony Smith explained what occurred. Luckily no one was injured during the fire.
"I think they are filming some stunts for the last scene. There is a big battle scene involving a lot of pyrotechnics and explosions.

"There is a mocked up castle made of timber, steel and plastic - somehow it caught alight.

"By the time we got there the on-site fire crew had it pretty well under control - they did a good job.

"We just helped damp it down and inspected the area.

"I didn't see any cast - but there were about 100 crew, who were all evacuated to a marshalling are. They didn't seem too concerned.

"It's hard to say how much damage was caused, because some of it may have been planned as part of the filming.

"Perhaps they got much better footage than they expected."
Update: News Of The World reports on the fire, stating that the set used in the last scene of the film was left badly damaged.
Explosives used in action sequences set light to scenery for the wizardry school.

Firefighters battled for 40 minutes to bring the flames under control but the set - centrepiece for the film's Battle of Hogwarts climax - was left badly damaged.

Our source on set said: "We were shooting the scenes where Hogwarts gets blown up during the battle. But fire managed to catch hold of the set and it went up in flames. It was completely out of control at one point."

Some actors were still filming at the studio but none of the movie's biggest stars - Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Emma Watson (Hermione) or Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) - was involved. No one was injured but our source added: "The special effects guys involved are devastated.

"There's always a risk when there's shooting involving fire and explosives but this shouldn't happen."

The costly blaze will not help studio bosses, who are battling to finish the film in time for its November release.

Always diplomatic, the 20-year-old star stopped short of dissing curling. "It's a highly skilled thing, I'm sure," Radcliffe said of curling. "But to actually watch it is very easy. It's like you're being hypnotized or something!

MTV News: Daniel about gay rumors "If people want to say that, they can," he said. "But I'm not. I'm straight."

MTV News: Daniel about gay rumors "If people want to say that, they can," he said. "But I'm not. I'm straight."
While Daniel was filming a new public service announcement (PSA) in New York back in February for The Trevor Project, MTV News had a chat with him during the shoot. They mentioned persistent rumors about him being gay.

"If people want to say that, they can," he said. "But I'm not. I'm straight."

But he does get a bit of a kick out of reading about why other people think he's not straight.

"My favorite thing I saw was a guy on the Internet that said, 'Of course he's gay. He's got a gay face,' which I thought was kind of an odd thing to say anyway," Radcliffe laughed. "A 'gay face'? That's a very worrying thing, like they have sat at home and have got pictures of me next to other famous, gay [people] -- Elton John, I don't know -- just comparing across the years. I'm not sure. It's very, very odd."

Even if Radcliffe were gay, though, he doesn't think his status as the world's most famous boy wizard would have prevented him from being open about his sexuality.

"I don't think my position would have stopped me if I was gay," he said. "I know that some actors actually don't like to. I kind of can understand that to a certain extent because sometimes you do see actors get typecast after they come out, which is unfortunate. But a lot of the time that doesn't happen. It's personal preference. Coming out is such an important moment in a gay man's life that I would never want to actually comment on whether or not anyone should or should not."
