Updated: Daniel Radcliffe prepares for The Cripple of Inishmaan

Daniel has been talking with the Daily Mail about preparing for his upcoming West End play this summer: Martin McDonagh’s black comedy The Cripple of Inishmaan.

‘I’ve been working with a consultant trainer who helps people who have multiple sclerosis, because Billy — the boy I play — is crippled in his legs and his back has gone. I wanted to find a way of conveying his illness in a manner I’d be able to perform every night,’ Daniel told me.

‘If you do these things the wrong way, you can end up with serious back or walking problems.‘It’s not actually specified what’s wrong with Billy. But reading through the play, it seemed that multiple sclerosis might be closest to what he has.’
Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan opens for a 12-week run at The Noel Coward Theatre in London from 3 June.

Update: Daniel posted the following comment on Google+ about this article:
Loved chatting to Baz from the Daily Mail about my role in Martin McDonagh's brilliant comedy CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN - Martin is a comic genius.  I should say that though the script is unspecfific about the exact nature of Billy's ailment the physicality I am working on is based on a specific kind of cerebral palsy and not MS (multiple sclerosis). I am excited to start rehearsals at the end of April with Michael and his team on this comic masterpiece. -Dan
