What are your childhood memories of TV?
I remember running home to watch The Simpsons. I’ve been on The Simpsons now. That was a real moment for me. And I loved Live & Kicking. The first time I’d ever been near a camera or a studio was when I was in the audience for that. I’ve met Jamie Theakston since and he always reminds me my on-screen debut was with him.

What’s your TV guilty pleasure?
The show I miss when I’m away, weirdly, is Come Dine with Me. I watch a lot of it. It’s all down to the voiceover guy, Dave Lamb. Other versions in different countries just aren’t as good.

Is The Gamechangers your first BBC Project? 
Actually my first ever job was playing young David in David Copperfield for the BBC in 1999. It was amazing, the cast was phenomenal: Emilia Fox, Pauline Quirke, Maggie Smith, Bob Hoskins, Imelda Staunton, Paul Whitehouse, Ian McKellan, Zoe Wanamaker… the list goes on and on.

Lots of people that I ended up working with on Harry Potter years later. It was an amazing starting ground and for a lot of people would have been the best cast they ever worked with. One day on set, the director told me, “Dan, you’re never going to be in something with this level of cast ever again.” I’ve reminded him of this several times since! He just got really unlucky as he could have said that to anyone else and he'd have been right! Maggie (Smith) played my aunt in it and she was the person who recommended me for Harry Potter initially.

The BBC’s Make it Digital campaign hopes to inspire a new generation to be creative with coding. Why is this important for the future?
Because I don't understand it and there's a lot of 'me's out there, and if the future population of the country is like me, we're doomed!! Don't be like me… Make it Digital!!!

The 90-minute drama airs 15th September 2015 at 9pm on BBC Two.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Daniel is in talks to star in Grand Theft Auto (a.k.a. GTA) Game Changer as the creator of the video game. British director Owen Harris will direct the drama which is being made by BBC Films BBC Factual. James Wood wrote the script for the project, which was previously titled Rockstar Games (the title could change again). Jim Spencer is producing while Mark Hedgecoe will exec produce.

Daniel will play Sam Houser, the British co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, the company behind GTA as well as games such as Max Payne and Red Dead.

Update: 20th April. The Hollywood Reporter has made changes in their last article regarding this project. The title is Game Changer not Grand Theft Auto and the film will be made by BBC Factual.
Update: 21st April. It's confirmed on Daniel's official Google+ page ("Happy to share the news...") and by the BBC. The film will be 90 minutes long. Bill Paxton plays Jack Thompson. The docudrama will be made for BBC Two.

In the first decade of the 21st century, Houser and Rockstar Games came under repeated attacks from activist attorney Jack Thompson. Thompson was an unorthodox Florida attorney who was already attacking media companies for pushing rap and sex onto the airwaves when he turned his attention to what he saw as an obsession of glorifying violence in the video game industry. GTA was one of his favorite targets. He was disbarred in 2008 for inappropriate behavior.

The movie is based on a book by David Kushner titled Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto. Filming is slated to begin 20th April.
