Stuttgarter Zeitung interview - Daniel J Radcliffe Holland

Stuttgarter Zeitung interview

Interview in promotion of Playmobil: The Movie (Playmobil: Der Film)'s release in Germany. Looks like it's a press release since it's the same as this one which I shared yesterday.

Translation by Daniel J Radcliffe Holland.

Mr. Radcliffe, you voice in Playmobil: The Movie in the original version an elegant spy. Surely James Bond served as a role model, right?
Of course.
I'm actually very bad at imitating. But when I applied for this voice role, at least I tried to get Roger Moore as close as possible to the voice samples.

Why Moore?
Well, in terms of smoothness and charm, there was no connection that could hurt him, right?
Besides, I've internalized him more than anyone else. If you turn on the ITV station on Sundays in England, Roger Moore does not really come around as 007. That's always been the case.

Shouldn't you rather be a fan of Pierce Brosnan?

Of course I am.  Pierce is the James Bond of my generation. He was not only elegant, but also gave the impression of taking the lead in every fight. Especially Brosnan has a personal meaning for me as he starred in my very first movie The Tailor of Panama. Looking back, I'm still thrilled with how nice he was to me back then - and that he even signed autographs for my entire class without complaining!

Soon a new bond will be searched. Wouldn't that be something for you?

Oh, I'm afraid I'm too nerdy and neurotic to play James Bond. And I have too many self-doubt. The Playmobil version of 007 suits me much better.

Did you play with your own Playmobil when you were younger?

I had a big boat, the hospital and a helicopter. Everything is packed in a box at my parensts house so I can bring it out later if I have children myself. Fortunately, as I see with my two godsons, today children still play with real toys, not just digital ones. The older one, who is turning 13, also has toys, which makes me really happy. Even if such statements make me sound really old.

Luckily, Harry Potter has been a toy in many variations for many years. What kind of a feeling is this?
Very bizarre and you never get used to it. The character Rex Dasher in Playmobil - The Movie is something else that should not look like me. I could even give Rex to my godsons. It was too weird for all the Harry Potter stuff. I did not want to reveal where my face is on the backpack. But all in all, I've reconciled myself with the thing and hardly remember what it was like before I found it in toy stores and other stores around the world. In the meantime, there are many more weird things.

Such as?
Above all, I mean the Harry Potter area in the theme parks of Universal Studios. There it exists as a hologram, forever preserved in my form as a 19-year-old. I'll almost certainly never get used to that.

Has your godson been there before?
No, but my girlfriend has been there. A friend of hers is a big Harry Potter fan, so I organized this trip for her. All the other visitors must have thought she was completely crazy because she always laughed when she saw my face again. In fact, it sometimes happened that my girlfriend was mistaken for a crazy fan. She likes to talk about how she wanted to send me a parcel and everyone at the post office looked at her pitifully when they noticed that it was addressed to Daniel Radcliffe.

Did you collect all the merchandise and toys that have your face?
For God's sake, no. I'm sure I have one or the other somewhere. Especially action figures. But most of what I got, I gave away to friends with kids. Having a collection inbetween my own four walls would feel a bit outlandish.
